Be Ready to Dazzle in the New Year with NYX Cosmetics Holiday Collection: Review, Swatches & Makeup Looks

Yes, we love the popping of the champagne, the glitters and the screams when the clock strikes 12. But the best part of New Year’s Eve? The right to dress up and make up like we normally wouldn’t! It’s the time of the year to be having your party makeup on for the countdown celebrations, but what have you got on your vanity?

I’m going to be decked in NYX Cosmetics’ Holiday collection this year and I’ve got 2 party looks ready for you.

The NYX Cosmetics Holiday Collection consists of the Wanderlust Lip & Eye Collection, NYX <3s LA Eyeshadows, and lip sets such as the Intense Butter Gloss 3-Piece Set and Matte Lipstick 3-Piece Set. Of course, there are other limited edition palettes too. There are just so many to choose from!

Wanderlust (Envie De Voyager) Lip & Eye Collection features 7 different cities around the world: Copenhagen, Los Angeles, Paris, Madrid, London, Dubai and Vancouver. Capture the flair of your favourite city with the lip and eye sets while on the go.

How timely that NYX sent me the Wanderlust Lip & Eye Collection in Los Angeles, because I just came back from the beautiful city. Showcasing 8 velvety shadows handpicked to reflect the highlights and landscape of the chosen cities, the eyeshadow sets allow you to unleash your creativity based on your feel for that destination. There’s also a Soft Matte Lip Cream to complete your look. For Los Angeles, the shade given is, of course, Los Angeles, a true matte greige (a combination of grey and beige).

Here are swatches for Los Angeles. I feel that there’s a good mix of mattes, shimmer and satins. The shades reflect pretty well on the city’s landscape. There are browns, greys and golds to represent the architecture, and even a metallic blue and hot pink to reflect the vibrance of neon lights at night. Looking at this palette brings me back good memories of my time there.

In summary, I’ve worked the metallic brown-olive duo chrome (shade #2) into the crease, followed by the pale gold (shade #6) all over the eyelids. I’ve applied the yellow gold shimmer (shade #7) onto the centre of the eyelids, while deepening the outer V with the matte brown (shade #3). To finish up, I’ve used the metallic periwinkle blue (shade #8) on the outer lower lash line, with the hot pink (shade #1) on the inner lower lash line, and the matte beige (shade #4) on the brow bone.

With greige lips in trend now, this look is pretty common in LA. However, I’m not quite sure if this would work in our local context, though I did head to work in this makeup look.. Well, you can always try something new and stand out, right?

My next look features more wearable shades, paired with a cheery coral red lip, featuring the NYX <3s LA eyeshadow set. Inspired by the City of Angels, NYX <3s LA unites the neighbourhoods in one eclectic collection of colours! Every major town is represented by a shade and I love it! From Beverly Hills to Sunset Boulevard, I’ve been to a few of the places featured and I must say the choice of colour is on point.

Here are swatches of all 12 shades:

  • Pasadena – rose gold shimmer | Downtown L.A. – sparkly black
  • Sunset Junction – matte orange | Silverlake – matte grey
  • The Valley – cranberry shimmer | Laurel Canyon – deep plum satin
  • West Hollywood – matte hot pink | Beverly Hills – champagne shimmer
  • Brentwood – deep forest green satin | Abbot Kinney – satin taupe
  • Santa Monica – matte light nude peach | Malibu – metallic vibrant sea blue

For this classic look, I’ve only used a couple of shades, maybe half of the collection. Sunset Junction was on the crease, followed by Pasadena as the main eyelid colour. I’ve deepened the crease colour further using The Valley. For the lower lash line, Laurel Canyon was on the outer part and Beverly Hills on the inner, leading to the inner eye corners. Of course, Santa Monica on the brow bone and you’re all set. Don’t forget to dress your pout!

To complement the eyeshadow looks, there are also 2 lip sets as mentioned earlier. I will not be swatching any of these because I’m giving them away! Check my Instagram page @paradeoflove on 30 Dec to see how you can win one of these two sets 😉

Anyway, the Intense Butter Gloss 3-Piece Set consists of 3 butter glosses (one of their best-selling products), and Matte Lipstick 3-Piece Set consists of 3 lipsticks in matte texture.

The 3 Intense Butter Gloss shades are:

  • Cookie Butter – sandy nude
  • Chocolate Crepe – deep beige
  • Toasted Marshmallow – mauve purple

The 3 Matte Lipstick shades are:

  • Dark Era – muted plum
  • Perfect Red – bright blue-toned red
  • Alabama – brick red

So, how will you rock your New Year’s Eve makeup?

Create yourself and be gorgeous!
XOXO, Roanna
