Presenting to you, the NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection.
About 2 decades ago, iconic makeup artist and photographer, François Nars, launched a product line of 12 lipsticks at Barneys New York. 20 years later, the trendsetting company responsible for cult-classic shades (Orgasm, Deep Throat etc.) celebrates its 20th anniversary as a beauty powerhouse by launching The Audacious Lipstick Collection with impressive 40 new shades of charismatic colour – Modern lipsticks so shamelessly seductive in touch and texture, the sensation is audacious.
The pigment-rich lipsticks boasts of unadulterated luxury and glide on like satin across the lips with a single-stroke coverage. A spectrum of 40 shades for unstoppable impact, ranging from loud pinks, neutral hues, to deep reds and violets. The luxurious texture is also enriched with ingredients (Tamanu oil and mushroom extract) to smooth and nourish lips.
Here are the descriptions of the 40 shades taken from the NARS website. These are named after people who have helped/inspired François Nars along the way.
As for me, the shades I have and will be reviewing today would be 5 from the Violet family, courtesy of NARS, from an Instagram contest, in celebration of their 20th anniversary. As you can see from the picture, some of my lipsticks started to “sweat” and what I did was to blot them off with an oil blotter before putting them into my fridge to counter the “sweating” effects.
So the shades I got are:
- Michiyo – Shocking Pink
- Angela – Pink Orchid
- Janet – Deep Magenta
- Fanny – Rich Berry
- Vera – Bright Raspberry
Judging from the descriptions of the lipsticks I got, I don’t exactly see why they belong to the Violets! All 5 lipsticks, fortunately, are of different shades in my opinion and they are significantly different, especially when swatched or worn on the lips.

Just how gorgeous are these? They are amazingly pigmented as well, making them very long-lasting on the lips. Being someone who doesn’t like to touch up, this is perfect for me. I remember when I was wearing Michiyo, after about 5-6 hours of wear, coupled with a plate of hokkien mee, a cup of lime juice and some dabs with a tissue off the food oil, my dear Milvian asked me, “Did you reapply your lipstick?” Obviously I didn’t but looking into the mirror, I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed put without budging! IMPRESSIVE! But of course, a strong oil-based remover is needed to remove the lipstick on the lips as well.
