Just when you thought there’s still a couple of weeks away from Christmas, it’s this weekend! This Christmas, all I want is to thank everyone of you who reads this little humble blog and also to all the brands who believe in @paradeoflove. I can never come this far without all of you and I’m always counting my blessings because you guys are so nice to me! J But before I embark on my long “Thank You” speech (just kidding), I want to let some colours do the talking.
If you’ve been following me on my Instagram page (@paradeoflove), you’d have seen some rainbow eyes on my IG Stories and the very palette that allowed me to create that look is the Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette!
Before I embark on the texture and pigmentation, I just want to express my disappointment to the packaging. I’m a HUGE fan of Urban Decay but I am seriously not feeling it for this one. The 20 shades are housed in a crushed lavender metal case, with brights on the left, neutrals to the right with a decent sized mirror separating them. You’re supposed to use it like a painter’s palette by holding the part with the mirror.
Honestly, I don’t like the packaging of this palette because it’s so bulky and it’s made to be a fingerprint magnet too! It’s pretty at one glance, but… that’s about it for me. I don’t know about you but I just don’t see the practicality of it.
Packaging aside, this palette every eyeshadow lover’s dream. The shades? B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. Indeed, this is a shadow mayhem with 20 of the most amped-up metallic eyeshadows! Every single one is NEW and exclusive to this holiday drop.
What sets the Heavy Metals apart is the formula of the eyeshadows. Apparently Urban Decay bumped up the foiled effect to create the most metallic shadows in their collection ever. When I was swatching these, they came out sooooo buttery smooth you wouldn’t believe it! With UD’s eyeshadows, you can be assured of colour payoff so these are absolutely shiny and super metallic on one swipe.
I also like that the palette separated the neutrals from the vibrant shades (just not in this packaging). You get to work a glamorous look for daytime or even go full-on metal for a night out. This palette literally has all the metallic colours for extremely sexy eyes. However, even though it’s a full metallic palette, it was still alright to be using them on the crease and on my outer corners. They blend right in without giving harsh lines.
The 20 shades, from the brights to the neutrals, vertically down the palette:
- Ground – metallic black with iridescent shimmer
- Spandex – metallic deep blue with purple shift and blue micro-sparkle
- Metalhead – metallic deep purple
- Mullet – metallic deep green
- Twisted – metallic gold
- Aluminum – metallic warm gray-taupe with iridescent micro-sparkle
- Dive – metallic medium blue
- Punk Rock – metallic fuchsia
- Amp – metallic bright teal
- Glamrock – metallic silver
- Bass – metallic bronze
- Demo – metallic bronze-rose
- Afterparty – metallic red
- Roadie – metallic burgundy
- Scream – metallic mauve
- Glory – metallic golden bronze
- Starfire – metallic bright copper
- Angelfire – metallic pale pink
- Maiden – metallic beige
- Acoustic – metallic nude
For this palette, I did two looks – one with only the brights and the other all using colours from the neutral side. Which one do you prefer?
