For its 40th anniversary, L’Occitane is retracing the roots of its greatest products – the Almond. Renowned since ancient times for the softening and smoothing properties of its fruits, the almond tree is key to the Provençal landscape. In February, the trees adorn themselves with a delicately scented white veil as the orchards continue to sleep. The blooms herald the start of Spring, before making way for the beautiful soft green shells, the nut of which is bursting with useful cosmetic properties.
From harvesting to shelling, sorting and pressing of the fresh almonds at the plant oil mill, all the necessary ingredients for a profitable industry have come together. The quality and traceability charmed L’Occitane into creating a whole new skincare range – the Almond range.
Almond is well-known for its skin-nourishing properties. L’Occitane harnessed this exceptional beautifying power of almond from the south of France and integrated it in their body care. Made with Almonds sourced from Haute Provence, the Almond range supports the sustainability of almond trees in the region.
My pick from this range is a no-brainer, none other than the Almond Shower Oil. With a unique oil-like texture, this shower oil, when in contact with water, magically transforms into a delicate foam/lather that gently cleanses your skin. Think facial cleansing oil. That’s the exact concept that this shower oil uses, to cleanse the skin.
Enriched with almond oil, the shower oil leaves no trace of oiliness or stickiness after a rinse, and instead, brings you a subtle and mouth-watering scent of fresh almond with a hint of sweetness. Be prepared to smell good and feel good all day! I really love the transforming texture of this product!
When lathering, you might feel a mild warming sensation as well which is pretty comfortable to the skin. Additionally, you may apply this as a shaving base to help the razor glide easily over areas like the legs, underarms etc.
To complete nourishment for the skin, don’t forget to moisturise and protect with the Almond Milk Concentrate. This is a brand new formula that helps in firming and smoothing of the skin, giving it amply nourishment to feel soft and satiny.
Enriched with powerful almond extracts, the concentrate melts into the skin in a creamy and silky texture, bringing 48 hours of hydration. Intense, isn’t it?
The moisturiser comes in a huge glass jar with a metal lid. Inside, a safety seal prevents contamination and ensures that the products you received have not been tampered with. I do like the packaging because it feels very vintage and minimalistic, however, it can be a little too heavy and inconvenient to bring around so onto the vanity table it goes!
With this intense moisturiser, the skin feels nourished and comfortable. The association of almond milk and oil greatly helps to moisturise and soften skin. Walnut seed and almond extract contained helps to protect skin elasticity and stimulate cellular renewal, making skin seem smoothed and tightened. The result is firmer and redensified skin thanks to the action of almond proteins and a silicium derivative.
The texture of this cream is pretty light and fluffy, so much so that it doesn’t weigh down your skin when you apply it. It absorbs almost immediately and the sweet fragrance of almond invigorates and makes you feel happy and refreshed!
And the star product in this range is the Almond Velvet Hands SPF15. It’s not everyday you find a hand cream with sun protection properties. Well, it is important to take care of the skin from the sun and I guess, it’s no different with our delicate hands right? I must say I am very guilty of not doing so.
Enriched with almond tree native cells, almond proteins and UV filters, this rich yet silky and velvety hand cream helps to protect the youthfulness of your hands. Enjoy the intense nourishment when you massage the hand cream onto your hands and smell the sweetness of the floral and powdery scent of blossoming almond trees along the way!
The texture is rich yet silky, as mentioned but I find that it might be slightly oily after application which takes a while to go away. Personally I don’t fancy hand creams for a fact that I have sweaty palms, hence it actually irritates me to have the sweat and cream mixture on the hands. Yeah, gross and you get what I mean, sweaty-palmers! But anyway, I enjoy the scent a lot and I find that this tube-like packaging is going to be handy in the handbag.
