Mix and matte with Clinique Pop Matte & Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer: Review, Swatches & Makeup Looks

Clinique Pop Matte

Matte is the new black. This season, we’re spotting matte lipsticks everywhere. With new additions to the Clinique Pop family, you’ll be seriously spoilt for choice. Tired of the dry-out with matte lipsticks? The NEW Pop Matte & Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer Lipsticks are here to save the day. It’s drama without the dry-out!

How do you feel today? Rejuvenated, accomplished, determined, or joyful? With 7* brand new shades from the Pop Matte & Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer ranges each, there’s bound to be a colour for every mood you’re feeling (probably except blue?). *7 colours each are launched in Singapore.

Clinique’s lipsticks have always been very hydrating and super pigmented, so I wasn’t surprised when these NEW Pop Matte Lip Colour + Primer lipsticks deliver pigment-packed colour while locking in moisture. With a built-in primer, the creamy yet lightweight formula glides effortlessly on the lips, providing a non-drying and suede-like matte finish.

Oh and have you realised how simple Clinique does their lipsticks packaging? I love that the lipsticks come in two-part blocks – one being the silver cap with the brand name engraved and the other in the colour of the lipstick bullet. I always enjoy bringing the lipsticks out because of the compact packaging. It’s just easy to pop one or two of them into a clutch/small makeup purse for touch-ups on-the-go!

I have with me 3 shades (L-R):

  • 03 Ruby Pop – bright orange-red
  • 05 Graffiti Pop – bright hot pink
  • 02 Icon Pop – bright classic red

Here are swatches on my arm as well as on my lips without a lip balm applied beforehand. My usual lip makeup routine consists of applying a lip balm before any lipsticks, but for the purpose of the review, I’ve tested it without a lip balm. It turned out better than I expected to be! Being a matte formula, not only did it not accentuate lip lines, it didn’t dry out my lips any further. It provided comfort-wear and moisture instead, and lasts for about 5-6 hours even through eating/drinking.

Which one is your favourite? I think Graffiti Pop suits me pretty well for it gives a pop of colour to my dull complexion 😉

While we’re on the topic of matte lipsticks, Clinique launched a whole new range of liquid matte lipsticks to embrace the hottest lip trend in town now. The Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer is simply THE BOMB.

Honestly, on first application, I was not impressed at all because I felt like I was painting my lips with acrylic paint instead of applying a lipstick. After about a couple of minutes, my frown broke into a smile because of the transformation in texture. The texture-transforming formula first applies as a liquid, then melts into your lips with a matte finish. The dramatic full coverage colour is just indescribable. Additionally, this hybrid liquid lipstick contains a blend of pampering oils such as Avocado Oil, Sunflower Oil and antioxidant Vitamin E to bring you sufficient hydration during your 8 hours of wear.

The shades I have with me are (L-R):

  • 07 Boom Pop – mauvy brown red
  • 03 Candied Apple Pop – bright raspberry red

I am beyond words with this one. It’s non-sticky, highly pigmented, plus it hydrates the lips. What more can you ask for in a liquid matte lipstick?

The Clinique Pop Matte & Pop Liquid Matte Lip Colour + Primer lipsticks retail for SGD35 and is available at Clinique and Sephora counters and boutiques.

Create yourself and be gorgeous!

XOXO, Roanna
