“Beauty is self-confidence applied directly to the skin.” However, more often than not, our confidence stems from having beautiful skin, isn’t it? Good skin makes you feel better of yourself; it makes you feel happy about yourself.
So, what makes good skin? Good skin can be commonly defined as having smooth, supple and clear skin. However, for me, having good skin is having clean, acne-free and well-moisturised skin since I know that it’s not possible for my type of skin to be completely flawless. With Clinique’s World-Renowned 3-Step Skincare System, great skin can be created!

My sister has always been a huge believer of Clinique’s skincare products, especially the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (trust me, she has gone through more than 3 jumbo bottles already). Hence, when Clinique sent me their key skincare products, I was thrilled!
The 3-Step Skincare System comprises of the basics in skincare – Cleanse, Exfoliate, Moisturise.
The first step of any skincare routine begins with cleansing. Cleansing the skin is vital to remove the impurities and dirt trapped inside our facial pores from our day-to-day encounter with various environment. With Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap (Oily Skin Formula), you won’t feel any form of tightness or dryness after cleansing! In fact, I felt that my skin was softer and feels so hydrated!
The thick, viscous formula comes in a pale green dispense bottle for easy use. What I love about the cleanser is that it comes in a gel form which does not strip your skin completely from moisture. It doesn’t have much of a scent so it would most likely not cause any allergic reaction.
What comes after cleansing? Moisturise? NO! Exfoliating comes next, after having a thoroughly cleansed skin! This step is commonly missed out by most people because of various reasons like laziness! Are you one of them?
If you ask me, I will NEVER skip this step. Exfoliating the skin with a toner is one of my must-dos because using toner will help to further remove those dead skin cells and impurities that the cleanser cannot reach. For someone with dry/combination skin, the Clarifying Lotion 2 (a.k.a. the Difference Maker) is for me.
Dermatologist-developed, the formula helps reveal fresher skin by sweeping away dulling flakes and excess oil so that the moisturiser can do its job better. The formula, however, comes in a bottle with a huge opening, which makes it hard to dispense the right amount on a cotton pad without wastage. It also smells like alcohol which puts me off a little but no biggie there, it does its job of ensuring my skin is clean and hydrated.
Yes, it’s time to moisturise the skin after toning! The Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ as been sworn by my sister the best moisturiser she has used after going through multiple bottles. I can now say that I am convinced after trying it out myself! The moisturiser comes in either a gel/lotion depending on your skin type. Dermatologist-developed as well, this formula combines all-day hydration with skin-strengthening ingredients to help skin look younger, longer. Note the lotion is not oil-free while the gel is.
With a lightweight yet slightly thicker formula, the moisturiser helps strengthen the skin’s own moisture barrier by 54%, so more moisture stays in. The product is non-sticky and it absorbs pretty fast too. I felt that my skin is much more hydrated. However, I tend to apply less on the T-Zone area because towards the end of the day, it gets a little oily there.
For me, having a cleanser, toner and moisturiser is basic. For my type of sensitive skin, I pile up on a lot more steps, more than double, in order to maintain its condition and having serums/essences in my skincare routine is critical in ensuring my skin is completely hydrated. Having said that, overall, I feel that for the masses, the Clinique 3-step skincare system is great, especially for those who already have good skin and just require maintenance.
