Cleansing is a vital step to anyone’s skincare routine. It is particularly important for a daily makeup user like me. After a full day at work, I’m always excited to go home and indulge in some pampering. This includes spending some time on my skincare routine. Now in my mid-twenties (omg how time flies!!!), I pay extra attention on the products I use on my skin.

I wear waterproof mascara daily – the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof. Being a waterproof formula, it’s not easy to find a cleanser that effectively removes all traces of this. I’m so glad that the Drunk Elephant Slaai™ Makeup-melting Butter Cleanser can!

About Slaai™

Slaai™ is an innovative cleansing balm that literally melts makeup, dirt and sunscreen. The formula is gentle enough even to be used on the eye area.

The Packaging

As with most cleansing balms, Slaai™ comes in a cylindrical jar, identified by a bright green lid. The packaging is in line with Drunk Elephant’s range of products – each of them has a unique coloured lid.

Additionally, I love that there’s a mini spatula attached! The best part about the spatula is that it comes with a magnet that gets attracted to the lid. No more fumbling for missing spatulas!

The Formula

Drunk Elephant is known to create clean skincare products and the Slaai™ is no exception. It is 100% free of essential oils, silicones, fragrance and PEGs, and is irritant-free as well.

The Slaai™ formula contains:

• A nourishing Fruit Salad Blend – a mix of non-fragrant fruit extracts (blueberry, kiwi and strawberry) and fruit oils (cranberry seed oil, acai fruit oil and watermelon seed oil) > helps soothe and moisturise skin
• Marula Seed Oil – a moisturising oil that is high in antioxidants and omegas 6 and 9 > preserves and nourishes skin while restoring its glow
• Baobob Seed Oil – intensely softens and dissolves makeup
• Kalahari Melon Seed Oil – soothes, moisturises and restores skin elasticity
• Mongongo Oil – has a fatty acid profile as rich as coconut oil > protects vital lipids in skin while melting dirt and other impurities
• Ximenia Oil – rich in vitamin C > nourishes and moisturises

The Efficacy

Slaai™ is designed to be used on dry skin with dry hands, like most cleansing balms. I find that the formula is very powerful – it removes EVERYTHING on my skin, including my stubborn waterproof mascara!

First, you’re supposed to take a small amount and start spreading onto the skin while massaging. (P.S. It kinda looks like peppering and salting your butter, LOL.) Then, when all traces of makeup are melted, add water and continue massaging. The formula then transforms from an oil to a milky texture. Rinse away for super-clean glowy skin!

Once a week, for exfoliation, I add a bit of the Bamboo Booster™ Exfoliant to my Slaai™ and massage onto my skin. The Bamboo Booster™ is a tiny vial included in every Slaai™. It contains tiny bamboo and charcoal spheres to help in exfoliation.

Overall Thoughts

I have been using this for weeks to cleanse my makeup. Even with sensitive skin, Slaai™ is very gentle yet effective. I love how it takes away stubborn makeup in literally seconds! If there’s a cleanser that one needs to buy, I highly recommend the Slaai™ Butter Cleanser. Two thumbs up from me for this one!
