With The Shilla Duty Free taking over the cosmetics and perfume’s retail activities since October 2014, beauty shopping during travel has now been brought to a whole new level! We’ve seen the entry of even more brands, especially contemporary Korean brands like Etude House, Innisfree, Holika Holika, The Saem and many more.
If you are travelling via Changi Airport’s Terminal 3, you’ll notice The Shilla Beauty Loft at the mezzanine level, featuring beauty and spa services from luxury brands Chanel, Dior, La Prairie, and SK-II. The Shilla Beauty Loft was launched when The Shilla Duty Free celebrated its first anniversary in October last year!
If you’re someone like me who loves to head to the airport early before departure just to spend some time shopping at the beauty counters, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can be pampered just before you jet away! The Shilla Beauty Loft can be accessed via the flight of stairs right in the middle of the retail section.
I had the opportunity to experience the various beauty treatments available before flight but note that I actually went through them when I flew back from Penang earlier from my company retreat. It was awesome pampering sessions nonetheless because plane rides can be really draining and exhausting even though you’re only sleeping/sitting.
My first stop was the prestigious skincare brand, SK-II’s PITERA Lounge, dedicated for people like you and I who travel often! It’s the brand’s first and only lounge facility located in an airport, and the lounge offers a select menu of facial and massage services specifically designed to meet the discerning needs of frequent flyers.

Choose from a variety of express 15-minute skincare boosts for a quick skin fix before boarding or even opt for more indulgent treatments up to an hour long that helps to revitalise the skin while relieving anxiety and jet-lag. Before any treatment, you’ll be asked to fill up a questionnaire as with usual procedures before a beauty treatment to understand your skin concerns.
After experiencing the signature PITERA Facial, I must say that this is truly a haven for relaxation and skin rejuvenation! I even fell asleep during the treatment because the massage was too comfy. Furthermore, the SK-II PITERA Lounge presents itself a cosy and serene spa atmosphere with its luxurious treatment room.
All treatments utilise the brand’s acclaimed skincare products, including the iconic “miracle water”, the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, one of my holy grail essence! Also, rest assured as the therapists are specially trained in various massage techniques to ensure maximum penetration of the miracle ingredient, Pitera™, which is repleted with vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and organic acids that restores the skin’s natural suppleness and radiance for you to look refreshed at your destination!
I must say I was stoked to be able to experience this facial and I’ll definitely be back for this before I scoot off to my next destination for work! My skin felt remarkably refreshed and hydrated, so much so that it didn’t look like I’ve just stepped out of a plane feeling tired.

Being a fan of some of Dior’s makeup products such as the Dior Addict Lip Glow and the eyeshadow quintets, the pre-flight flash makeover got me excited! I’ve always hesitated when it comes to putting on a full face of makeup before flight because it can be pretty time-consuming especially since you need time to travel to the airport. It can be a dilemma especially if you have an important meeting right after you land at your destination.
In my opinion, the flash makeover is a great way to save time and also a good opportunity to learn and discover new makeup products that work for your skin. With this short makeover session, I’ve actually discovered the wonders of the Diorshow Mascara. It brings my lashes up even without curling! Amazing.
In addition to other services such as specialised makeup and skincare consultation using Dior’s cutting-edge and revolutionary skin analyser, express facials and hand massages, get to immerse in the world of Dior La Collection Privée, the most exquisite range of the House of Dior with 12 elegant and exclusive scents!
A signature Fragrance Consultation led by a specially trained Fragrance Specialist will give you the opportunity to explore your fragrance preferences and customise a signature scent that will accentuate your unique personality. For me, it’s a no brainer. La Colle Noire, a floral, woody, musky and ambery scent that consists of notes of May rose, spices, sandalwood from Sri Lanka, white musk and amber caught my heart.
Here are some of the scents picked out for me based on my liking for light floral fruity scents. If you are into layering, be sure to check out Cologne Royale for it can be layered with all other fragrances for an interesting unique blend.

And finally, we have the Luxury Skincare Bar by La Prairie. This marks a major milestone for the brand as it realises the vision of establishing its first global high-luxury presence in an airport. As you can see, the interior, using mostly white as the colour scheme, brings you a wave of luxurious air as you step into the boutique.

Upon entrance, you will be greeted with a prominent test table featuring La Prairie’s existing and new signature collections for you to test and try the products.
Also, while waiting for your beauty appointments, light complimentary refreshments will be served while you sink into the comfort of the plush sofa seats. The purpose of the boutique is to allow you to wind down, relax and experience one-on-one skin consultations and receive personalised skincare recommendations.
There is a wide array of pampering skincare rituals under the La Prairie Art of Perfection treatments for you to rejuvenate, lift and brighten your skin before you embark on your plane journey. I managed to experience a super relaxing hand massage, using the brand’s super luxe and moisturising hand cream, with a skilled therapist.
Can you see how shiny my arms are under the application of the hand cream? It seriously glows.
