Since a very young age, I have been struck with acne problems not just on my face, but my poor back has been piqued with spots and blemishes too. For a long time now, I have been focusing my efforts on achieving a better facial complexion but did not manage to dedicate much time and effort for my back until I chanced upon the back facial (a.k.a. bacial) treatments that My Cozy Room offers! I’m no stranger to My Cozy Room as I’ve been through a couple of facial/massage sessions prior to my decision to surrender my back to the boutique spa.
A little introduction about the spa boutique.. My Cozy Room Boutique Spa is an intimate sanctuary with art nouveau furniture in soothing, pretty pastels, like that of an Edwardian parlour. Think Victorian royal loft armchairs with gold crystal chandeliers. Stepping into My Cozy Room is like entering a haven that promises a relaxing experience.
Located just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling Orchard shopping district (specifically situated behind The Paragon) in Singapore, and tucked within a three-storey conservation shop-house along Cairnhill Road — My Cozy Room Boutique Spa offers a perfect respite from the city’s hustle and bustle. Hand over yourself and a complete rejuvenation of the mind, body and spirit is what you’ll receive from My Cozy Room. A lavish selection of treats for the face and body entails.
Just look at the furnishing! Vintage roses and hydrangeas in sweet nectarine shades are what you can expect to see together with the beautiful furniture. Such a cozy place to be in after a stressful day at school/work, isn’t it?
This being my fourth bacial treatment now gives me results beyond satisfaction. I’m not saying it just because but the reason why I’ve been coming back to this place for follow-up bacial treatments after my first trial was because my back acne has cleared up so much that I’m now even more confident of pulling off off-shoulder and bare-back outfits! Because of the tremendous improvements, I’ve been back for maintenance on and off.

Get ready for a series of images detailing the processes behind my bacial treatment, specifically, the My Detoxifying Bacial Treatment combined with My Sparkling Diamond Bacial Treatment. Much like how a facial treatment is like, My Detoxifying Bacial Treatment is the classic back facial treatment that My Cozy Room offers for its customers, whereas My Sparkling Diamond Bacial Treatment is a premium version of the former, utilising a Diamond Peel machine to effectively reduce clogged pores and trapped bacteria for clearer and more radiant skin.
Without further ado, let’s get you through the processes in the bacial~
Well, the first step in every facial/bacial treatment is Skin Analysis to decide what products are suitable for my skin type, before Deep Pore Cleansing, a step that helps expel impurities, lightens marks and aids in skin whitening.
Steaming of the back surface then entails so as to open up the pores prior to what most people dread the most – Extraction.
Extraction is always a very painful process for me due to my super clogged pores, be it on my face or back. Thankfully my therapist, Iris (she has always been the one doing my treatments), is gentle and careful yet thorough, so the pain actually becomes bearable. In this step, the blemishes are removed as the pores are cleaned out of their gunk. See the red spots? Pay extra attention to them because you’re going to see them lighten after the Diamond Peel!
After thoroughly cleansing the skin on the back, Tonic lotion is applied to disinfect the skin and prevent bacteria growth, followed by the Diamond Peel, in which diamond chips on the vacuum-tipped tool with abrasive properties remove the dull, dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. It feels like a scrub going through your back. The red bumps you see are due to the extraction on my sensitive skin.
With the Diamond Peel exfoliation, the bumps are visibly reduced, with the skin looking smoother and more refined.
Afterwhich, a BABOR Ampoule (optional @ SGD28 per piece) is then popped onto the back. Usually, a detoxifying ampoule is used but for my case, as the skin on the back is pretty dry, Iris has recommended the use of an Intense Balancing Fluid one instead to target my concern, which is to intensely hydrate and quench the skin’s thirst. Hydration also helps in repair of the skin tissues to prevent scarring. The Intense Balancing Ampoule also have got the following properties:
- Anti-bacterial and therapeutic properties
- Helps reduce shine and clarifies the skin
- Leaves the skin even and matte, supplies multi-layered moisture
FYI, BABOR, being the pioneer in professional skincare, is also the World’s Inventor and largest manufacturer for ampoules. These ampoules are absorbed by the skin 8 times faster than a moisturiser and at SGD28 a piece for unparalleled quality, to me, is worth every single cent of investment.
The next step would be a High Frequency Treatment for antiseptic purposes as well as to help treat and prevent stubborn acne together with shrinking of enlarged pores. You’ll feel tingling sensations for this one but fret not, it doesn’t hurt though it might sound a little intimidating.
A relaxing Back and Shoulder Massage is what comes after all the essential procedures to fight acne. Just close your eyes and lift your stress down as your tensed back and shoulders are being kneaded to comfort. I always love the massages skillful Iris gives. She knows just the places to knock out the kinks, giving me a super relaxed back after that! Sometimes I just drift away to dreamland because it’s so comfortable that it’s sleep-inducing.
We’re almost done! Just one more step to soothe the stressed up skin and relieve it from redness and swells! Masking time!~ Eifelfango Volcanic Mask, a natural mineral clay sourced from the deposits in Eifel, a volcanic region near Aachen, is used to flush out impurities and detoxify the skin cells. The use of this mask also promotes metabolic processes in the cells, helping the skin cells to rejuvenate.
A warming sensation is experienced instead of the usual cooling effects. It’s pretty interesting that the back needs to have its fair share of masks too.
After finishing with toner and skin lotion, it’s finally done! I feel so ready to conquer the world and don on that sexy back dress/romper! I actually do have one and after every session, I get even more confident strutting down town in my cross-back romper!
Here’s an update after 2 days…
In the first picture, you can see that the red bumps have visibly been reduced and the skin looks smoother and more refined. Even though it’s generally redder, after the mask, the redness subsided. And on the right pictures my skin condition 2 days after the bacial. It looks so much clearer and feels smoother without any bumpiness! Knowing that I can achieve clear skin on my back pumps extra confidence in me and that’s just priceless isn’t it?
