Wow the crowd with the Fenty Beauty glow – Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter & Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick: Review, Swatches & Makeup Look

Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife & Confetti

Just 2 weeks ago, the whole world stopped for Rihanna, as @badgalriri launched her very own makeup line dedicated for all skin colors, all undertones, from all countries. With foundation in 40 shades, skinsticks in 30 shades, Fenty Beauty was created and made for every girl in the world.

First things first, disclaimer! Note that this is not a post with sponsored products as I wasn’t provided with any and these two highlighters were solely purchased with my own pocket money. Let’s be honest here. I know that I have been reviewing a lot of products provided by PR companies and the brands themselves but I just want to put it out there that I share my most honest thoughts even if the campaign was paid or products sponsored!

My Fenty Purchases

*Back to Fenty Beauty* The two products that caught my attention immediately following the launch were the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife (seriously the world went crazy for this) and the Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick in Confetti. I bought them both with the help of a sweet friend who was at the press launch at Sephora ION.

Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter

The Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter is a lineup of weightless, long-wear cream-powder hybrid highlighters that were born to reflect your every mood. They come in solos and duos. For one, I love the name “Killawatt”. “Kilowatt” is a unit of measurement for electricity and I love how they played it punny combining “killer” and “kilowatt”!

I got the shade in Trophy Wife, which is Rihanna’s favourite highlighter, and the one that gives you that iconic #FentyFace. Trophy Wife is described as a 3D Hyper-Metallic Gold. It is a bang-on yellow gold that instantly lights up your cheekbones with one sweep. Scary it may seem at first especially because it’s super-pigmented, I was wrong when I swatched it on my arm.

It turned out to be a nice blendable shimmery gold that looks spectacular on the cheeks! I’ve had a couple of compliments when I wore it to work. You just have to be light-handed if you want it to be work-appropriate. You can triple is as an eyeshadow and a lip topper too.

Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick

The unicorn glow trend is not dying, is it? Well, life can never go boring with a little pink-blue shift (more professionally referred to as a violet iridescence) in your makeup! I’ve been loving this shade of highlighter ever since I first discovered Amethyst from the Kat Von D Alchemist Palette. When I saw that Fenty Beauty had its version of the highlighter, I knew I had to bag it home! The Matchstix Shimmer Skinstick is a magnetized makeup stick in a long-wear, light-as-air shimmer formula for you to highlight, blush and basically allow you to catch light in ways you couldn’t have dreamed of!

I picked the shade Confetti and it’s an opal iridescence that reflects blue, pink and violet when there’s light. It allows you to achieve that unicorn strobe, all in one swipe. The best part about the skinsticks is that they are hexagonal and they click to each other with its magnetic body, allowing for space to be saved when storing. However, I find that the formula is a little too dry and I pick up a fair bit of my foundation while gliding through the skin. The sheen is beautiful though and I like that I can travel with it very easily.

My Thoughts on Fenty Beauty

The highlighters aside, I know that it’s quite an amazing deal to have 40 foundation shades because honestly, it’s pretty hard to find a foundation line matching all kinds of skin tones, especially the darker ones. Kudos to Rihanna for producing so many shades to suit all skin tones! While Fenty Beauty has got one of the largest shade ranges, it’s funny how we’re all giving her a standing ovation for doing so but forgetting that there are other brands that do cater to a wide range of skin tones, namely:

  • Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation – 40 shades, ranging from Beige Ivoire to Brownie
  • A.C. Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation – 35 shades, ranging from NC10 to NW58 etc.
  • Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup – 30 shades, ranging from Cool Beige to Espresso
  • Becca Cosmetics Ultimate Coverage Foundation – 20 shades, ranging from Porcelain to Cacao

and many more…

What are your thoughts on Fenty Beauty? Anyone tried and anything to recommend? 🙂

Fenty Beauty is available at Sephora stores and Sephora Online and its products retail from SGD26-79.

Create yourself & be gorgeous!
XOXO, Roanna.
