It’s been a while since I’ve last penned a review because well, life often gets in the way of our plans, right? And good news, we’re finally transitioning life back to normal which means that we can finally bare our lovely faces in public without the need for masks! Just last month, I took a trip (in fact, two trips!) down to Halley Medical Aesthetics in search of a treatment for my acne-prone skin and was recommended the Clarifying HydraFacial.
About HydraFacial
Unlike the traditional spa-like facial, HydraFacial is much more than that. It is a medical-grade hydra-dermabrasion that uses a patented three-part regime to cleanse, exfoliate, and infuse. It utilises antioxidant-rich serums to nourish the skin.
Halley uses the HydraFacial device that is designed to treat a multitude of skincare needs:
- Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin elasticity and firmness
- Brightness of skin tone and skin vibrancy
- Skin texture
- Brown spots or pigmentation
- Oily and congested skin
- Enlarged pores
Steps of the Treatment
As with a usual facial, cleansing is the first step and my treatment specialist gently removed my makeup before double cleansing. Next up is a series of steps that’s not quite like our usual facial treatments. The full treatment is carried out with just an intuitive high-tech machine which contains a probe-like tip that does it all – Cleanse and Peel > Extract and Hydrate > Fuse and Protect.
Step 1: Cleanse and Peel
In this step, I was treated to a serum that’s dedicated to uncovering new skin with gentle exfoliation and resurfacing.
Step 2: Extract and Hydrate
The removal of debris from pores plays a big part in ensuring the effectiveness of any facial treatments and usually by this time, I’d be expecting the manual extraction which can be really painful. Interestingly, a painless suction was administered to suck out the gunk in my skin, followed by a very brief manual extraction for the deeper-set impurities. An intensely refreshing serum was then applied onto my skin for hydration.
Step 3: Fuse and Protect
My favourite step of all with yet another serum to saturate the skin’s surface with antioxidants and peptides for maximum glow.
The final step is a sweet ending to my main facial course – the masking. My treatment specialist applied a super cooling facial mask for me to relax for 20 minutes before I head off. The result? Glowing skin without any signs of redness!
What I like about the facial is that it is quick, and completely painless. There’s no need to dedicate hours just to get a treatment done so it’s great for busy mums or those with a hectic lifestyle.
The Technology Behind
What makes HydraFacial so unique and so desirable for me to try it out is its patented technology. It uses a Vortex-Fusion delivery system that’s multi-purpose to exfoliate, extract, and hydrate skin, plus it delivers painless extractions. I can already imagine how enticing this would sound to many of my friends who are afraid of needles and the pain from extraction.
HydraFacial also features HydroPeel Tips in which they develop different kinds for the use of a myriad of serums they offer. With the combination of both technologies, the tips create a vortex effect to dislodge and remove impurities on our skin while protecting the skin with antioxidants at the same time.
Benefits of HydraFacial
With HydraFacial as mentioned, there’s no need to worry about excessive redness after the treatment. I could even put on makeup right after so it’s definitely a treatment worth considering if you’re time-strapped.
Here are some of the other benefits of the facial if you’re keen to know how it helps the skin:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Promote skin elasticity and firmness
- Even skin tone and brightens skin
- Improve skin texture
- Lighten pigmentation and blemishes
- Improve oily and congested skin
- Reduce pore size
- Unclog pores
- Promote skin renewal
- Hydrate and nourish the skin
Types of HydraFacial at Halley Medical Aesthetics
The facial I tried was their Clarifying HydraFacial (S$280 per session) with 4 passes of Beta HD Clear Solution. The Beta HD Clear Solution contains Willow Bark and Tasmannia Fruit and Leaf Extract that’s specially formulated for oily and congested skin. It enhances Salicylic Acid with Willow Bark to gently exfoliate and prevent dirt and sebum from building up within pores.
My skin felt so clean! For the first session, it was more of clearing my congested skin and my subsequent session focused on brightening with the use of an additional LED light treatment.
Besides the Clarifying Facial (45 min), Halley offers the Signature (30 min) for deep cleansing and Halley’s Build Your Own (BYO) Platinum for rejuvenating, firming and hydrating ageing skin.
Overall Thoughts
After trying HydraFacial for 3 times (one at the HydraFacial Experience Center), I’m totally convinced by how effective this treatment is and I can’t quite imagine myself going back to a traditional spa-like facial unless I have 3 hours to spare. Two thumbs up!
