If you’re new to the brand, Drunk Elephant (DE) is a “Clean Compatible” skincare brand founded by Tiffany Masterson while combating her skin issues. The products are made in the U.S. and do not contain the “Suspicious 6” (Essential Oils, Drying Alcohols, Silicones, Chemical Sunscreens, Fragrances/Dyes, SLS). DE’s focus is about biocompatibility, pH levels, safety, continuously making sure that active ingredients are at efficacious levels. So, What’s “F-Balm™”?

The F-Balm™ is the latest skincare – an overnight hydration mask – formulated by Drunk Elephant. It’s the newest kid on the block right now on Instagram, have you seen?!

Why F-Balm™? The “F” refers to Vitamin F that’s present in the F-Balm™. It’s essentially a mix of omega fatty acids encapsulated into tiny white beads that burst upon application. Together with a unique formula of barrier-replenishing ingredients, the F-Balm™ effectively rehydrates hungover, overly-parched skin, making it soft and supple.

While Moisture is about the barrier lipids and oils on the surface of our skin, Hydration is about the concentration of water in the surface layers of your skin. The F-Balm™ works to restore the balance of both hydration and moisture in skin. This can help other ingredients in our skincare routine perform better at their job.

The Ingredients

Like all other DE products, the F-Balm™ is 100% free of essential oils, silicones, fragrance, and PEGs. It’s irritant-free, vegan, and cruelty-free as well, which helps to give our skin #acleanbreak. In detail, the ingredients present in the mask are:

• 5-ceramide complex: helps fill in the spaces between skin cells, giving them elasticity, and play a critical role in strengthening the skin barrier
• 4-electrolyte blend: contains powerful humectant ingredients and helps maintain the balance of hydration and moisture
• Vitamin F: biodegradable microbeads burst during application – helps improve skin texture and suppleness, while strengthening our skin’s acid mantle
• Niacinamide: helps strengthen a stressed, compromised skin barrier to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness

My Skincare Routine

We’re all about clean skincare now that we’re more informed about the ingredients in what we eat and use. DE’s philosophy of having only effective active ingredients makes it a good choice for clean skincare lovers.

I’ve started using DE last year when it first came to Sephora Singapore and I found the skincare products very effective for my skin type. I’ve tried the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil, the Slaai™ Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser, Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum, B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum and the Protini™ Polypeptide Cream. What’s interesting about DE is that instead of layering your skincare, it is recommended to concoct your skin smoothie by mixing your serums/moisturisers/oils together.

With the F-Balm™, I mix 2-3 drops of the Virgin Marula Oil for superb hydration. There’s also the option of using the T.L.C. Framboos™ before the F-Balm™ for a gentle chemical exfoliation.
