Sustainability, how much do you know this term? Within your knowledge, how much of it do you know about sustainability in the beauty industry? We as consumers are exposed to more than hundreds and thousands of brands each day, so much so that what a brand does behind creating their products are no longer curious to the everyday minds. For me, I always enjoy learning about brands’ histories even though I’m not quite yet an advocate to sustainable living.
In the beauty realm recently, I was exposed to some fragrances that only use raw ingredients from environmentally sound cultivations and harvesting practices. Sounds intriguing, isn’t it? I particularly like their motto:
“To change the way you experience fragrance. To create a collection that highlights your individuality. To tap into our perfumers’ reserve of raw ingredients. To actively engage in eco-conscious sustainability. To remove the clutter, heaviness, and complexity –so all you’re left with is CLEAN.”
Yeap, it’s CLEAN Reserve by CLEAN.
CLEAN Reserve has just launched a new collection of nine “niche, authentic, sustainable and personal” fragrances. There are six new fragrances (Amber Saffron, Blonde Rose, Smoked Vetiver, Sueded Oud, Terra Woods and Velvet Flora) together with new “Reserve Blend” editions of three older CLEAN fragrances (Rain, Skin and Warm Cotton).
Each CLEAN Reserve fragrance was created to be dynamic and for the purpose of evoking the vast sea of possibilities and experiences yet to be discovered. Each fragrance is made linear without much scent movement from its top to bottom notes, making it ideal for layering. Here’s Skin [Reserve Blend], one of the few scents that captivated me upon first smell.
In line with their sustainability efforts, each component of the flacon, from its cap to the bottle and the formula speaks “sustainability” in their own ways. The oak cap is made of wood from certified sustainably managed forests sourced from Spain while the glass bottle is 100% recyclable. Paper used to make the cartons are FSC-certified (composed of virgin tree fibers but it can be just as eco-friendly as recycled paper) too.
When we examine the ingredients, several fragrances in the line contain ECOCERT materials, and all of them are manufactured in a facility that uses 100% solar energy. Furthermore, the alcohol used is derived from corn, allowing for a highly refined and pure juice and the incorporation of aloe to the formula gives added benefits and a “skin” feel when applied.
Skin [Reserve Blend] is ideal for the understated and quiet one who likes to leave a mark. The concoction depicts the tenderness and soft intimacy of a warm embrace — a combination of comforting salty sweetness that lasts for a good 7-8 hours. The fragrance opens up strongly with fruitiness and vigour while the strong Musk combined with Copaiba Oil, in the heart, balances out with a dash of sensuality.
After 2 hours, the strong musk scent settles into a sweet and salty concoction of Tonka bean and Warm Accords. It feels like you are in a warm, heartfelt embrace. The fainter scent makes you feel at ease. Soothing to the nose, this smells like what a mature young lady would wear. Someone with big aspirations, yet know sometimes to reveal her sexiness and playfulness.
Overall, I really enjoy wearing this scent and this scent is great for layering, especially with Blonde Rose in my opinion to turn the blend into a bouquet of fresh blooms. If you would like to know more about the other blends, click hereto find out more!
The Clean Reserve collection is available in 100ml Eau de Parfum for SGD128 each in Sephora stores.
Create yourself and be gorgeous!
XOXO, Roanna.
