If there is only one beauty brand I can use for the rest of my life, it would be Tom Ford Beauty. I first fell in love with the brand for its lipsticks. One of the first few luxury lipsticks I bought was the Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in Willful. I didn’t know much about TF’s lipsticks, but I really wanted to own one because of the luxe packaging. Then I remember being disappointed at how the lipstick didn’t have the iconic “TF” engraving, haha! Fast forward many years now, I’m finding myself falling deeper in love with the brand.
Whenever Tom Ford Beauty launches something, I get all excited! You can be assured of the packaging, quality and texture of the products. Recently, a new line of liquid lipsticks has been populating my vanity table and it’s the Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Luxe, both Matte and Vinyl.
The Packaging
The Lip Lacquer Luxe features a luxurious packaging that is weighty and classy. It has a gold band with the brand name on it, elevating the look and feel of the lipstick. I also like that the base is made of glass and the colour inside peeks through.
While the packaging is a darling, the applicator inside doesn’t seem so.
The Applicator
Perhaps it’s the size of the applicator, I broke 2 of mine while trying to open the lipsticks. The only liquid lipstick I own from TF is the Lip Lacquer Extreme and the applicators are doe-foot shaped. This one right here is shaped like a tear-drop and seems to be bigger than the “opening” inside. Thus, when I was trying to take the applicator out, they broke and got stuck inside the tube. How unfortunate, TF. For the price, anyone would expect better of the brand, and apparently, I’m not the only one!
I’ve since sent my feedback to the brand and I sincerely hope that they would do something about it.
Oh, and the applicator also gives a feathered effect on the lips for some reason. If you are seeking pristine lines, please use a lip brush to touch up!
The Formula
The unique technology in both the formulas wrap concentrated pigments in cushioned emollients, creating a smooth film for a long wearing finish.
Matte
The Matte version is described as a full-coverage liquid lipstick that delivers transfer-resistant colour. It is a soft-matte formula that doesn’t weigh down the lips. When first applied, it appears to be slightly glossy before drying down to a complete matte.
Mineral-infused, the lipstick is crease-resistant throughout the day. Longevity wise, it is what it claims – long-wearing. I still had it on even after my dinner. There wasn’t much touching up required unless you are wearing the deepest shades.
Vinyl
The Vinyl version has a rich three-dimensional texture. It is full coverage and has a high-shine formula. When applying, these are opaque at one swipe. It doesn’t take a lot work to spread evenly but try not go over too many times. The texture is thick but comfortable to wear and last really long. I had it on even after my MacDonald’s meal and popcorn.

My Overall Thoughts
Matte
I love this formula, A LOT. It is super light – it feels like you’re not wearing anything at all. I have dry lips, and this were hydrating and did not dry out my lips. The Too Faced Melted Matte-tallics and Sephora Cream Lip Stains were some of my favourites but this TF one totally knocked them off the charts.
Vinyl
This is one of the most pigmented lipstick formulas I came across. I would say that it’s a lipstick-gloss hybrid because of its moisturising properties and high shine, coupled with its longevity. However, it can transfer easily onto your skin if you’re munching on a burger or if your hair gets on it. That being said, I’m pretty much quite a fan of this formula for a glam night out.
The Tom Ford Lip Lacquer Luxe Matte/Vinyl retails for SGD80 each at selected Sephora stores, Sephora Online and Tom Ford counters in Robinsons and TANGS.
Create yourself and be gorgeous!
