Day to night makeup with Urban Decay Nocturnal Collection: Review, Swatches & Makeup Looks

Urban Decay Nocturnal collection

You know there’s no other makeup you need if you keep reaching out for the same few ones for all sorts of looks. Well, I have been seriously swarmed with work and there’s no time for me to pick and choose the colours I need for my everyday makeup. Oddly, I haven’t been feeling the need to stick to one palette/collection of lipsticks until the Urban Decay Nocturnal Collection took over my vanity table.

About Urban Decay Nocturnal Collection

With a super versatile eyeshadow palette accompanied by 4 NEW luscious lipstick shades from the Vice range, you can have any look you want that can take you from a long day at the office to late-night cocktails with your girls. Want to instantly transform your makeup in seconds? Nocturnal Shadow Box

The newest incarnation of the cult-favorite Shadow Box, is the perfect all-in-one palette. Don’t be fooled by how compact it is; you’ve got all the shades you need to create a range of looks. This travel-friendly palette served me really well on my trip to Berlin with 12 amazing shades of eyeshadows you’ll reach for again and again. Nothing new, but the eight must-haves from UD’s current collection plus four exclusives from past sets make this palette a dream to have.

Play it neutral by day with the first row, then add a hit of colour or smoke when night falls with the second. If you’ve no bag space to carry tons of makeup, just use the full-size mirror and the double-ended brush for touch-ups on-the-go. From matte, shimmery and glittery shades to trippy duotones, every eyeshadow features UD’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ for rich, velvety, blendable colour that lasts.

The Swatches

The 12 shades are:

  • ABC Gum – pale peach matte
  • Midnight Cowboy Rides Again – light pink champagne shimmer with silver glitter
  • Baby – cool metallic rose
  • Half Baked – golden bronze shimmer (one of of all-time favourites)
  • Riff – brown-nude matte with floating micro-sparkle
  • Delete – deep chestnut brown matte-satin

  • Fireball – peach satin with pink shift
  • Backfire – burgundy satin with purple shift
  • Lounge – brick red satin with green shift (AMAZING pigment!)
  • Armor – metallic silver-taupe with tonal sparkle
  • Heroine – deep navy blue with subtle floating tonal pearl
  • Blackout – blackest black matte

The Makeup Look

Incorporating my favourite eyeshadow from this palette, Lounge, here’s a makeup look that’s suitable for both day and night:

Nocturnal Vice Lipsticks

The look couldn’t have been complete without the perfect pairing – the limited-edition Nocturnal Vice Lipstick shades that range from neutral to bold. These shades were made with lipstick junkies in mind – they’re so edgy and bold! Satisfy your vice with four never-before-seen shades including one everyone begged UD for — Fireball! Fireball now has a lipstick to accompany the beautiful orange-pink highlight and eyeshadow 😉

The Ingredients

Like the rest of the Vice Lipsticks, the Nocturnal shades feature UD’s special “Yummy Butter Blend”. With skin-loving ingredients such as aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils, you’ll feel that your lips are nourished and softened as you wear them. Illipe butter (derived from Malaysian illipe trees) provides long-lasting moisture as well while vitamin C and vitamin E provide a hit of antioxidants. The formula comforts, hydrates and enhances, leaving lips soft, conditioned and never dry.

The pigment load in these Vice Lipstick is insane. Just one swipe and you’ll see an unbelievable lay-down of colour. Every shade applies smoothly, hugs lips comfortably and feels amazing. The proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ also gives the formula its super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior colour dispersion.

What I love about these lipsticks are that each shade comes in a special bullet case with a purple metallic base and a limited-edition design on the case. To give it a cool, after-hours vibe, the UD icon resembles a pink neon sign set over a gritty cinderblock backdrop.

The Swatches

Here are the 4 Limited Edition shades:

  • Nonsense – deep dusty rose (Comfort Matte)
  • Lawbreaker – muted plum brown (Sheer)
  • Backstab – violet berry with red pearl (Cream)
  • Fireball – peachy orange with pink iridescent pearl (Metallized)

I personally love Nonsense a lot and I have been reaching out to this particular rose shade almost every day, taking it with me even when I travel! It’s such a flattering shade on Asian skin tones, in my opinion. Even though Fireball may look too pale, surprisingly, it gives a beautiful natural sheen on the lips that translates into a sweet, girly look.

So here’s my final makeup look using the Nocturnal Shadow Box and the Nocturnal Vice Lipstick in Lawbreaker.

I am seriously digging this look because of how the green shift from Lounge looks on my eyelids. It is sophisticated yet sexy.

The Nocturnal Shadow Box retails for SGD52 and the Nocturnal Vice Lipsticks retail for SGD29. Available at Urban Decay Singapore and Sephora stores.

Create yourself and be gorgeous!
XOXO, Roanna.
