Your perfect selfie with Casio Exilim EX-TR80: Review

Casio Exilim EX-TR80

I’ve never owned a selfie camera. Being an owner of a DSLR, I never found the need to have one because, why do you need one when you have a somewhat professional camera? Well, for years, I’ve only been using my DSLR or my iPhones for my product and makeup-of-the-day shots. Even though these gadgets do deliver, I can never obtain quality photos in the night with low light conditions.

With the opportunity to play with the Casio EXILIM EX-TR80 Selfie Camera, I was mind blown at how my photos turned out, especially how I still looked good even after a long day at work when my makeup has already melted (and probably disintegrated haha).

First Look

The Casio Exilim EX-TR80 joins its predecessors, TR60 and TR70, in taking your selfies to whole new level. With 3 colours, white, pink and black, you can choose one that resonates with you. I absolutely love how this camera is designed. Sure, it has a silver rim of glitters/sparkles around the camera lens but being pretty is definitely not the only thing this compact digital camera offers.

The Design

Notice that the camera comes with a frame? In fact, this feature, in my opinion, is a genius one. With this 360 degrees frame, the camera can be hung on the wall with a hook, on a bottle of wine (when you party and would like to take group shots) or even can be used as a stand by itself! You can also hold the camera by the frame while recording videos for greater stability. The frame also acts as an extension to your hand so say bye-bye to ugly arms in your selfies!

The Functions

Here comes the exciting part about the camera – the Dual LED Light. You know how sometimes, with a normal flash on the digital camera, photos taken at night can accentuate your flaws? Not to mentioned that the stark, bright flash can also blind you. TR80 brings mercy to your eyes with 2 soft LED lights that are enough for brightening up your face for a flawless selfie. Obtain quality selfies with the makeup mode even in minimal light conditions!

Image Quality

Just look at the difference between my iPhone 7 and the TR80, under the same lighting condition. See how much brighter and decent my selfie is with the TR80? It may not be the best quality you can find, but personally, I feel that it is much better than a lot of other compact digital cameras out there.

(Both photos were taken at 10pm outdoors, with no editing involved.)

Makeup Mode

Unlike its predecessors, the TR80 has got the most advanced make-up mode, with 6 different effect settings: Skin Tone, Smooth Skin, Face Brightness, Sculpt, Dark Circles Remover and Slim Face Feature. You can totally play around with different settings for different looks! With the above 6 different settings, the camera’s make-up mode has more than 9000 different combinations of make-up settings! That makes endless hours of fun selfie time! As I do not have flawless skin, I love toggling the Smooth Skin settings to smoothen my complexion just a little. It makes my makeup looks more presentable in my opinion.

The beauty of the selfie cameras from Casio is that you can simply download an app, Exilim Connect, on your smartphone, transfer and upload your photos instantly! You can even remotely control the camera with Bluetooth on the app, within a certain stipulated distance. Save the hassle of having to transfer photos manually to your SD card and then emailing to yourself before saving (like the iPhone).

Final verdict – BUY IT if you are into taking selfies and if you want to look good in photos even in low lighting conditions.
