Olivia who? Olivia Palermo! She’s a New York socialite and model best known for her role in cult US reality TV show, The City. Even though I don’t exactly know who is she, I got attracted to the classy, luxury packaging of this Ciaté London x Olivia Palermo makeup collection.
That black faux leather complete with shiny gold details spells l-u-x-e. What’s more, the collection consists of eyeshadow palettes, eyeliners, blusher/bronzer duos, lipsticks and not to forget, what Ciaté London is best at producing – nail polishes!
I wanted to talk about this makeup collection so much so I laid my hands on an eyeshadow palette, a blusher/bronzer duo and a set of lipsticks! You should see how excited I was to receive them in my mail!
I actually bought the eyeshadow palette on Sephora.com (the U.S. site) and was thrilled to have found that Sephora.sg now carries the entire makeup collection! You can guess where the lipstick set and the blusher/bronzer duo came from 😉 Alright, can we take another moment to marvel at the packaging before we proceed to the review?
First up, my favourite category – eyeshadows! Nine fabric-inspired, suede-like textures for simple to smoky eye looks with The Smouldering Eye Palette. In my opinion, this isn’t an easy-to-use palette for ladies who are just venturing into makeup. I had a little difficulty using just shades from this palette because there aren’t neutral shades for me to use as all-over-eyelid colours. Though there is a matte brown for the crease, I felt that it’s not complete enough for asian eyes. It would be good if it consisted of a shimmery peach/taupe.
Selected by Olivia Palermo, this palette is said to be a must-have for party makeup to easy daytime eyes (maybe not quite). This beautiful compact palette features shadows in matte and pearl textures, and I must comment that the size of it is indeed perfect for carrying in your handbag and for on the go touch-ups.
The 9 shades are (L-R):
Butler – bone beige matte
Camo – deep olive pearl
London – deep gray matte
Pisces – light gray pearl
Double Denim – blue shimmer pearl
Amaretto – aubergine/brown matte
Mulberry – cranberry pearl
Penny Jar – purple gray shimmer pearl
Blondie – gray brown matte
The pigmentation of these are pretty decent when swatched, but pales in comparison when picked up by a brush and applied on the eyelids. I find that the pigments don’t stick to the skin as much and are easily dusted away. You definitely have to use an eye primer with these. I’ve layered a lot for the eye look below but on camera, the eyeshadows blend so much into each other you almost can’t see the distinction between the three shades used. I guess this was made for the everyday girl.
Next up, is the blusher-bronzer duo infused with oil-controlling bamboo extract, called The Cheekbone Cheat Blusher Bronzer Duo (S$40). I have the shade Bluff Point with me because I wanted to add a muted pink to my sea of coral blushers. As mentioned, it’s formulated with bamboo extract mainly for skin smoothing oil-control. The powder actually feels smooth and slightly dense, like the texture of a cream.
Said Olivia Palermo, “My Mom taught me from an early age to stay away from the sun but I love a delicate sun kissed glow to my complexion. This bronzer, with bamboo extract to help absorb excess oil, is perfect for a variety of skin tones and actually feels like a crème product as it is SO soft! I sweep this on the higher points of my face to add warmth and then add contour just below the apples of my cheeks for definition. A quick pop of subtle blusher on the apples completes my look. Super easy!”Keeps scrolling for swatches below.
(That adorable little bow makes it so cute isn’t it?)
As with any makeup routine, a lipstick is definitely a staple. How can we miss it? If you’re looking to venture into the brand’s lipsticks, I’d recommend you to get the Satin Kiss Collection Trio (S$75) which contains a pink nude, darker nude and a classic red.
While some beauty trends come and go, lipstick is a classic that never goes out of style. Tried and tested, this formula glides on smoothly and gives you soft, smooth and kissable lips as it contains hyaluronic acid.
I was doubtful at the quality of the lipsticks initially because usually, brands that are not solely producing makeup fail at producing proper, usable lipsticks. My, was I surprised at the pigmentation of these! Each of these Ciaté lip colour is packed full of pure pigment to deliver lasting luminosity and one-swipe payoff. See the swatches below and you know what I mean. They are also pretty long-lasting. I only had to touch-up once after eating lunch and they lasted throughout the day, without drying my lips out! I have a thing for lipsticks that don’t suck the life out of my already chapped lips.
The 3 shades in the Satin Kiss Trio are:
Truffle – pink nude
Praline – brown nude [my favourite!]
Velveteen – classic red
“Whenever I want to dress up my look, lipstick is the first thing I reach for. I worked closely on not only perfecting these colors but on this this super soft satin-feel formula to make it the most comfortable, wearable, flattering lipstick available. This must-have hyaluronic acid-infused formula promotes natural fullness and plumping while wrapping lips in gorgeous, high pigment color.”
— Olivia Palermo, Ciaté London Creative Director
Now I know why these lipsticks are so hydrating.. By the way, swatches!
And of course, lip swatches to show you how each lipstick shade looks like:
Ending off with my favourites from the collection, all used in a makeup look!
